Caer Alyn Archaeology - Trench one opened - Saturday 7th Aug 2010

A great turn out in the Southern Enclosure this Saturday and a 20m x 20m grid marked out over the area that had been geophysed. A 10m x 10m area within that was de-turffed with a very exciting mechanical cutter. Finally, it was all cleaned back to get our first glimpse of what we will be digging for the next 2 weeks.

Bill, Oliver and Tony push! and push! oh, and it rained.

Oliver and Megan visit for the day proudly showing off Meagan's 6 shards of pottery. Oliver will be back in Moscow tomorrow, have a safe trip.

Where did all that turf go?

FINDS

Bits of chert and post med pot and possible Roman brick/pot but the best 2 have to be this small piece of flint and this ceramic which could be very early indeed. (If anyone has a better pick can you send it to me please? or drop it onto a comment on this page?)
